The FIU Digital Collections Center is pleased to host interns from the Graduate Schools of Library & Information Science at the University of South Florida and at Florida State University. The semester-long internship provides the opportunty to gain an understanding of the workings of a 'real life' digitization unit as well as hands-on experience in digital capture and conversion ; descriptive, technical, administrative and structural metadata ; digital asset management and preservation; project planning and design; rights management issues relevant to digitization; and more.
Pre-requisites & Requirements:
- At least 24 credit hours of graduate level coursework covering information organization, cataloging/metadata, online searching and information retrieval, Web design, and research methods.
- Proficiency in using both Windows and Macintosh operating systems
- Sound proficiency in raster image editing using Adobe Photoshop
- Experience in online searching of library catalogs, the Web, and subscription databases typical of an academic library
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Ability to work both independently, and cooperatively as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and experiment with new things!
